Penelope Chilvers on Amanda Wakeley's StyleDNA Podcast
We're delighted to share that our founder, Penelope Chilvers, is the latest guest on Amanda Wakeley's StyleDNA podcast. In their conversation, Penelope offers a glimpse into the origins of her design journey, her enduring connection to craftsmanship, and the evolution of her signature style.
Though raised in Britain, Penelope spent every school holiday in the province of Girona, Spain, a place that founded her deep appreciation for Spanish culture and artisanal tradition. Those formative years ignited a lifelong appreciation for artisanal skill and traditional design, values that remain central to the brand today.
Later, while living in Barcelona and working as a painter and designer, Penelope found herself riding horses in the hills above the city during lunch breaks, always in a pair of classic Spanish riding boots. Inspired by their beauty and practicality, she envisioned bringing a version of these boots to the UK. She collaborated with traditional Spanish artisans to craft a boot to her own specification, and so, the iconic Long Tassel Boot was born.
With Amanda, Penelope also speaks candidly about the role her family has played in shaping both her life and her business. She shares childhood memories that sparked her creative spirit, and reflects on how her daughters have contributed to the brand's evolution, adding depth, continuity, and fresh perspective.
Listen to learn more about Penelope's journey, the artistry behind her designs, and the enduring passion that shapes the heart of the brand.
