Our collections are founded on long-lasting, slow fashion. Our artisans work with natural materials which age and wear beautifully, and these materials are—due to their natural qualities—susceptible to imperfections and details. It's all part of their character and only adds to the beauty of the product. Watch Penelope's care videos below for tips on how to keep your products looking healthy, and well lived in, for many more years to come.
This video is a guide on how to clean your boots, and the materials or products we recommend. The regularity of this will depend on how often you wear them, but for well worn boots we would recommend a quick clean every two months.
Your boots may arrive with a slight scuff or imperfection on the upper. This is because we use natural, untreated leather, and our packaging, or in fact the other boot, has likely just rubbed up against it! It can be cleaned off using a little bit of leather cream (or even hand cream) and a clean cloth. See our video below for more details.
Leather
Vegetable Dyed Leather & Leather
Our love of vegetable dyed leather began right back at the beginning when we first started making boots. We continue to use it to this day as it comes in such beautiful deep natural tones and we know that when we use it, it is not harming the environment. Each skin is oiled by hand to give it a supple and rich appearance that only improves as it is used. If the leather becomes dull, simply apply some Leather Feed with a soft dry cloth and buff up as much as you want with the Beech Buffing Brush.

Embossed Leather And Suede
We choose to incorporate these leathers in our collection as they give an element of fantasy and colour. The different textures that we work with really bring our styles to life and make them truly special. These leathers need very little care once they have been protected with a leather protector - Suede & Leather Protector Spray. Simply brush off any dry surface dirt with our Beech Mud/Suede Brush .

Patent
We choose patent for its glossy, wet-look finish that is light reflective. Although often associated with vintage footwear, this leather gives a very contemporary look that is liable to wrinkle once worn. This is a characteristic of all patent and cannot be avoided. Maintain by polishing with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and dust.

Gaucho & Oiled Suede & Leathers
This is our antiqued, aged leather, specifically selected for its worn, familiar feel. We love its tough resilience and attitude. This leather has an oiled finish and marks, small imperfections are natural characteristics. These leathers can be oiled with Oiled Leather Cream to a give a rich and supple finish or leave to dry naturally for a more parched patina. Simply brush off any dry surface dirt with our Beech Mud/Suede Brush.

Goatskin Leather
We use this more velvety suede skin for our finer Dandy slippers as it comes in the most exquisite colour palette. It has a refined finish that suits the more delicate styles in the collection and looks beautiful when over embroidered with metallic thread. Goatskin suede needs very little care once it has been protected with a suede protector - Suede & Leather Protector Spray. Gently brush off any dry surface dirt with a soft brush or cloth and always brush the nap of suede to keep it pristine.

Pony (Cowhide)
Pony is actually cowhide where the hair has been left on the hide and dyed in a multitude of colours and prints. We have been working with pony for many years as it is so versatile and can be used on footwear and accessories and gives a real 'fur-like' look that our customers love. It also looks really special when it is used alongside smoother cowhides as it gives great contrast. Protect with a suitable weather protector and always brush pony skin with our Beech Mud/Suede Brush in the natural direction of the hair to keep it well groomed.

Suede
We select the tougher grades of suede for our boots and bags as our styles are designed to be purposeful as well as beautiful. These skins are from Spain so the whole product has a truly Spanish heritage. They need very little care once they have been protected with a suede protector - Suede & Leather Protector Spray.Simply brush off any dry surface dirt with our Beech Mud/Suede Brush and regularly brush the nap of the suede to keep it looking pristine.

Textile & Velvet
Textile
We cannot resist a beautiful fabric and many of our prints and weaves are made exclusively for us. These fabrics make our styles truly unique. We often work with traditional fabrics, reinventing them with fresh colour combinations and turning them into contemporary classics. These pieces need a little more care as they can be quite delicate. Always protect them with a suitable spray protector - Suede & Leather Protector Spray. for textiles and only sponge clean wools, linens and cottons with a barely damp sponge allowing any moisture to dry naturally. We do not recommend using any form of liquid on silks and satins - these just need extra special care during wear.

Velvet
This most decadent and traditional fabric has become one of our trademark fabrics. We love the faded glamour of velvet and the wonderfully intense colours that this fabric comes in. We use it throughout the winter season and do not believe it is only for Christmas! You will find it on all kinds of styles from urban boots to party slippers. Velvet should be protected with a textile protector- Suede & Leather Protector Spray.and then brushed with a soft brush to maintain the pile. To restore dull velvet, hold at a safe distance from a boiled kettle and steam whilst brushing the pile with a soft brush.
Care - We advise you to keep this product away from heat and damp and, when not in use, store in the cotton dust bag provided. To preserve the delicate nature of the velvet, direct contact with water and wear in heavy rain should be avoided.
Waterproof
The Long and Standard Tassel Boots are water resistant as the high-quality oiled leather will naturally repel water. We recommend that our products are treated with a Woly or Dasco protector spray on a regular basis to protect against adverse weather and dirt.
If you are looking for a boot to wear in very wet weather and possible shallow water then please consider the Inclement Boot which comes in both a Long and Cropped fit. These boots are made using a sustainably sourced weatherproof suede that is oiled and Scotchgard™ treated for maximum water repellence. They have a protective inner gusset to give you further weather protection and are lined with Texalive™, a high-tech sustainable membrane designed to be waterproof and allow your feet to breathe, wicking moisture away and keeping them fresh during brisk exercise.
